Monday 12 September 16
What: Students will be able to list and explain the contributions of Eratosthenes and Hipparchus.
How: I will give the students a worksheet Eratosthenes and Hipparchus to complete.
What: Students will be able to give evidence supporting the geocentric model of Ptolemy’s.
How: I will begin with a discussion where the students attempt to argue against the geocentric model. We will then look at a PPT on Ptolemy followed by digital manipulations of a geocentric model.
Wednesday 14 September 16
What: Students will be able to list and explain the contributions Copernicus and Ptolemy.
How: I will give the students a worksheet on Copernicus Ptolemy to complete.
Thursday 15 September 16
What: Students will be able to visualize and describe the contributions Copernicus.
How: We will go to the planetarium where I will show the students the contributions of Copernicus via the star projector, PPP and discussion.
Friday 16 September 16
What: Students will be able to locate the circumpolar constellations and identify precession.
How: I will take the students to the planetarium where they will learn to locate the remaining circumpolar constellations. This will be followed by a brief lesson on precession and Hipparchus.
These are the base plan for the week and may differ from day today based on the differentiated needs of each class.
